In 1994, educator Marcia Visconti invited me to teach in her newly opened school Forte das Artes, founded by our late conductor Eleazar de Carvalho.
She was responsible for my early interest in music pedagogy and my involvement with music education for children. A few years later I was invited to join Conservatório Souza Lima (certified by Berklee School of Music – USA), where I taught piano, harmony, theory and ensemble performance from 1997 to 2002.
After graduating from university, I was increasingly more involved in seasonal projects, meaning my work in music schools grew ever more difficult. Therefore, during the following years I worked mainly with private students, helping amateurs, beginners and professional musicians in their quest to better express themselves musically, be it in playing an instrument or singing, composing, arranging and orchestrating.
For the past 10 years, I’ve been giving lectures, workshops and master classes in universities such as USP – The University of São Paulo and FAAM – Music University and in music schools. Since I moved to Europe, I’ve already had the opportunity to work with students and teachers in the École Intercommunale de Musique et Danse Jean Wiener (Chartres de Bretagne, FR), École Intercommunale de Musique du Pays de Ghichen – Musicole (FR), and the École de Musique du Trégor – EMT (Lannion, FR).
Although techniques are essential in their role of supporting our musical discourse and performance, helping us to better express ourselves as the musical beings we are, I believe that music is not about technique: Music is about expression.
